# Compute and limits

> Runtime hardware, concurrency, timeouts, seed settings, and validation constraints.

## Plan the run

Validate uses Remyx-hosted compute. CPU is the default. Available GPU tiers, concurrency, timeouts, seeds, size limits, and budget caps are defined below.

A timeout means a run did not finish. It does not prove that the change failed its criteria.

Validate runs on Remyx-hosted compute. CPU is the default. Tests that need accelerators can use an available GPU tier when supported by the current configuration.

Only one validation can run at a time per repository. A second request for the same commit may link to the existing run rather than launch a duplicate.

A timeout means the requested evaluation did not finish within its configured limit. It does not establish that the change failed its criteria.

## Current limits

The tables below list the supported hardware, resource quotas, concurrency, timeouts, seed defaults, size limits, and command restrictions. Check the active configuration before planning a costly run.

| | Default | Notes |
| - | - | - |
| Compute tier | CPU | `compute.tier: gpu` or a `lighteval:` suite selects GPU |
| GPU available | One L40S (48 GB) per run | One GPU eval runs at a time across the platform; the next one queues |
| Measurement timeout | 1800 s | `compute.timeout_s`; `auto` is the estimate times `timeout_padding` (1.5), clamped to 60 s and `timeout_max_s` (4 h) |
| Pod deadline | measurement + 900 s CPU, + 3600 s GPU | Absorbs image pull, GPU scale-up and upload |
| Environment build timeout | 1200 s per cold arm, on CPU | Warm re-runs of the same commit skip it |
| Default seeds | 1 | `seeds: N` multiplies the arms |
| Concurrency | One run per commit, one run per repo | A second mention points at the running one or refuses |

A run that hits its deadline reports **Ran out of time**. That says nothing about your code. Raise `compute.timeout_s` or narrow the corpus.
